The 12,200 km2 nature reserve is located in the north west of the kingdom on the border with Jordan. The vast mountainous landscape is characterised by an interplay of dark rugged rocks and an undulating desert of distinctive red dunes, as well as diverse wildlife including ibex, deer and wolves. The project aims at establishing a resort in a secluded location within the reserve where visitors can experience the unique beauty and diversity of this protected area.
Our architectural concept for the resort’s main building is designed to become an integrated part of the landscape, where nature and the building merge in an architecture that frames, stages and articulates the natural surroundings, and where visitors experience a contemplative and activating connection to the area. The exterior of the main structure is covered with sand, gravel and rocks, thereby blending harmoniously into the surroundings in an almost camouflage-like manner only pierced by occasional panoramic windows that grant spectacular views over the landscape.
