Jabal Hafeet is the only mountain within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and considered by many to be the most prominent geographic feature within the Emirate with a rich natural history and significant archaeological findings. The resort combines adventure and recreational activities while at the same time providing a living educational classroom for communicating the ecology and history of the area.
The resort consists of two main elements: the Jabal Hafeet resort and the Wadi Al Tarabat camp. The significance of the landscape is emphasized by taking inspiration from natural resources and the landscape in the key design drivers. The result is a resort that seems to grow out of the ground – an inhabitable landscape rather than a building. The main resort building located at the foot of the mountain towards Al Ain is formed as a crescent of large stone slabs that seem to rise from the ground mimicking the jagged cliffs of the landscape and opening towards the mountain. Moving up the mountain along an adventure trail you reach the Wadi Al Tarabat camp. To preserve the unspoiled view of the valley and create as little visual impact on the mountain as possible, the camp is completely integrated in the mountain to form a hidden retreat that is only visible as window openings in the mountain slope.
