The modernization and extension of Tuborg’s former bottling plant will provide a modern and flexible framework for Experimentarium’s exhibition and educational activities. At the same time the Experimentarium of the future will open itself towards its surroundings as a cultural centre that offers a wide range of cultural experiences to the local community.
The project is characterized by a complex interplay of programs and visions such as the building’s future identity and relationship with the surrounding city, the exhibition environment, the set up for outdoor exhibition facilities, a stronger integration and marketing of education programmes and research facilities.
The building is defined by a significant and independent expression, which at the same time respects the surroundings and existing buildings. It uses its characteristic facades and interacting ‘eyes’ in order to interact with the nearby urban space, thus inviting visitors inside the Experimentarium universe. The functions are organised with great emphasis on internal synergies that create a vivid and active interior, where new constellations and spatial connections develop continuously.
A new unifying multi-purpose hall defines Experimentarium as a cultural centre with a diverse range of activities and functions that appeal to a varied user group. The result is a new strong image in a high-technology and sustainable form, where the architectural expression supports the content of the future Experimentarium.
